Longcroft and Hornsea Schools

BriggsAmasco has recently topped off two secondary schools in Yorkshire as part of a £3.6 million upgrade. Combining long term waterproofing integrity with a fast application, the specialist team from BriggsAmasco completed the two refurbishment schemes ahead of schedule, with minimal disruption and to an exceptionally high standard.

Forming part of a modernisation and refurbishment programme, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Infrastructure & Facilities required a complete fabric upgrade of the Hornsea and Longcroft secondary schools which were built in the 1950’s.

With works taking place during term time, BriggsAmasco had to overcome the challenges of a busy site and complete all rooftop work whilst being sensitive to the needs of the two schools. Working closely on both schemes with the main contractor, Hall Construction Group Ltd, the installation had to be programmed so as to cause as little disruption as possible and with minimal impact to the school’s daily schedule.

With the stringent timeframe and minimal disruption key to the success of the projects, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Infrastructure & Facilities specified a SIKA Sarnafil roofing system – renowned for quality and long term performance.

For the roof areas of Longcroft School in Beverley, the works comprised the overlaying of the existing roof finish utilising the existing as the vapour control layer, 130mm Sarnatherm Insulation and Sarnafil G410–15EL Lead Grey membrane. The existing roof surface had badly blistered and crazed which required numerous repairs to avoid the stripping of the existing system.

BriggsAmasco carry out multiple disciplines of roofing specifications such as mastic asphalt which meant they were able to complete these repairs using mastic asphalt ‘patches’ resulting in no disturbance to the school during the stripping of the existing roof surface. BriggsAmasco also utilised its large workforce to complete critical phases within holiday periods as requested by the client.

As part of the renovation, the scheme also included the renewal of lantern and standard rooflights, for which the simple application of the Sarnafil system once again met the challenge perfectly.

At Hornsea School, the works comprised the overlaying of the existing roof finish utilising the existing as the vapour control layer, 100mm Sarnatherm Insulation and Sarnafil G410–15EL Lead Grey membrane. The scheme also included the renewal of rooflights.

As the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Infrastructure & Facilities had specified the multi-layer, hot air weldable Sarnafil G410-15EL, this eliminated the need for hot works on the rooftop. BriggsAmasco completed all the rooftop work without any disruption, allowing the teachers and students below to carry on with day to day activities.
