Description:
As part of the redevelopment and transformation of the Beechwood Shopping Centre into a flagship, £30 million John Lewis department store, the adjoining eighties-built multi-storey car park required a complete refurbishment and upgrade. Working for main contractor Midas Construction, BriggsAmasco was selected to install a Flexiphalte asphalt waterproof system to the car park’s seven levels – 10,000m2 of surface in total – along with a new bonded 2,500m2 single ply roof over the department store.
Hand-applied, Flexiphalte systems deliver superior watertight solutions in heavily-trafficked and conventional roof deck applications. Radflex expansion joints were incorporated within the waterproofing system to complete a smart, durable installation that will withstand the rigours of traffic and the elements for many years to come. The company specified and installed a comprehensive roofing system from Sarnafil over the store that included the G410-EL waterproofing membrane supplied in light grey.
Commenting on the project, Dave Maginnis, Managing Director at BriggsAmasco said: “One of the challenges of this project was the constrained site with a low head height, which meant all of the waste material had to be transported out of the car park by small skid steer machines. There was approximately 1,000 tonnes of waste mastic asphalt removed by us to ground level and recycled by Tarmac.”
Thanks to the diligence of BriggsAmasco’s installation teams, it resulted in a stunning multi-storey car park that looks as good as its watertight performance and will provide the ideal parking environment for shoppers in this regency spa town.
