Apprenticeships

BriggsAmasco have been taking on and supporting apprentices for many decades and our current Managing Director, Tony Lawther, joined the company as an asphalt apprentice, in 1984. In the last few years the Board of Directors decided there should be an ‘Apprentice of the year’ award given to the highest performing apprentice(s) during the year. The Director’s receive 6 weekly reports from their colleges and line managers throughout the year. These reports are collated and discussed at the October Board meeting when agreement is reached and the apprentices informed.

2022/2023 Apprentice of the Year Award

The Board of Directors would like to congratulate our joint winners of the 2022/2023 Apprentice of the Year award. Both of their monthly progress reports have been excellent and they should be very proud of their achievements.

We have an annual apprenticeship award scheme where every month we contact the branch/line manager of each apprentice for an update on their progression, and collate all these reports over 12 months to recognise their effort and hard work.

We also contact the college/university for an update and contact the apprentice directly to find out how they are finding their apprenticeship course and make sure there are no issues.

This last academic year we had some fantastic feedback from across the branches, but the board of directors narrowed it down to 2 winners.

Harvey Jones who is currently studying a chartered surveyor apprenticeship course at Salford University, and upon completion of his course will receive a level 6 apprenticeship qualification.

“Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year and I can’t wait for many more with Briggs”

Jordan Short who is currently studying for a built up felt roofing apprenticeship course with CITB, and upon completion of his course will receive a level 2 apprenticeship qualification.

“Thank you very much im absolutely over the moon and cannot wait to continue to progress within the company”

Both have received glowing reports and praise from their line managers, branch managers and college/universities, and they should be extremely proud of their efforts.

To recognise their continued efforts, they were invited down to Birmingham for the evening to stay in the Radisson Blu hotel, and invited to Cradley Heath the following day to accept their Amazon vouchers and certificate in person from the board of directors.
