Description:
BriggsAmasco’s expert installation team completed a challenging roof refurbishment to ensure a popular seaside attraction was fully-weathertight in time for the summer holidays.
The work was carried out at one of the largest amusement parks on the south coast: Clarence Pier in Southsea, Portsmouth. It involved installing a new, hot-melt inverted roof at the arcade – one of the park’s many family-friendly attractions – as the existing system had begun to leak due to wear and tear.
With work beginning in April, the existing waterproofing required removing and a leak investigation carried out before the replacement’s installation. Due to the arcade’s seafront location site access was limited. The roof’s confined spaces also presented a challenge to Briggs’ installation team. It was crucial such potential issues were overcome, as installers were working to the client’s (Quadrigy) strict deadline in order to make the venue weathertight in readiness for the busy summer holiday season.
Briggs’ vast experience in reroofing projects varying in design and environment was essential to this programme. They were required to work in a live environment whilst carrying out a renovation across a 590m2 surface area. It meant Briggs’ installers paying strict adherence to health and safety procedures for the protection of arcade staff and customers. For the refurbishment, IKO supplied the waterproof membrane in the form of its durable, self-sealing PermaTEC Monolithic hot melt system. This was supported by XPS rigid foam insulation with paving and ballast finishes.
Despite the potential obstacles to success, the arcade roof works programme was completed in June. It meant not only was the client’s deadline satisfied, the venue was fitted with a smart, watertight roof in time for the tourist season – the most profitable months of the year for any seaside town. In completing the works to such a high specification in the time allowed, BriggsAmasco fully justified its selection for this challenging project.
