Joint Faith School

BriggsAmasco was appointed to deliver a wide-range of waterproof roofing solutions to an exceptional quality and provide high-performance, all-weather protection for the world’s first joint faith school.

The Faith School Joint Campus in Newton Mearns, Glasgow was built specifically to house Catholic and Jewish students. The £18 million building replaces two separate faith primary schools. Appointed by developers, Heron Bros, BriggsAmasco was required to provide a watertight roofing package to ensure the building’s long-term protection in an area of high rainfall.

In lieu of the complex and challenging installation, BriggsAmasco worked in consultation with architects and site design teams to ensure the project’s completion was to the highest quality. For the roof’s 5,000m2 area, BriggsAmasco installed IKO Polymeric’s Armourplan PVC membrane. Suitable for warm and cold roofs, the system’s flexibility proved vital as it was required to cover several changing metal deck areas over one roof. BriggsAmasco’s skilled installers ensured this challenging operation, which included applying a layer of 140mm Rockwool insulation as part of the single-ply waterproof system, was carried out using the highest-level of workmanship.

The convoluted nature of the installation was enhanced by BriggsAmasco requiring to co-ordinate works with other on-site trades such as PV and M&E teams to ensure the programme ran to schedule. The roof’s size made this aspect of the programme particularly challenging, but again, BriggsAmasco’s vast experience in delivering high-profile projects meant each element of the installation was completed without delay.

Following the roof’s completion, BriggsAmasco was required to seal all M&E roof penetrations with IKO’s single-ply system. In difficult-to-reach areas not suited to single-ply details, BriggsAmasco enlisted the assistance of its sister company, Aperture.

Despite the complexities involved in this multi-level roofing project, BriggsAmasco delivered a fully-watertight roof within the agreed timeframe and to the client’s total satisfaction. It ensured this ground-breaking school welcomed its first intake of students at the appointed date – September 2017.
