Description:

The experience and skill of on-site teams on behalf of BriggsAmasco, one of the UK’s leading commercial roofing companies, in installing a high quality set of walkways at Southampton’s newest and biggest shopping centre, meant the multi-million pound development opened in time for the busiest consumer period of the year.

The first phase of the £85 million WestQuay Watermark development boasts 20 restaurants and a 10-screen cinema. It’s part of a reported £250 million investment in the city, with the project’s second phase scheduled to include a 27-storey tower block, office space and an underground car park.

BriggsAmasco, having been selected by main contractors, Sir Robert McAlpine, supplied and installed an estimated 2,100m2 of IKO Hot Melt and 250m2 of IKO asphalt to the walkways to ensure the shopping center’s exterior replicated the aesthetics of the main building. The challenge for BriggsAmasco’s onsite team, particularly during the final stages of the development, was to complete the installation whilst other trades used the walkway. This was overcome by developing a detailed programme of works that interfaced with other workers at the site.

BriggsAmasco teams were skilled and professional throughout the project. They committed to dates and worked to them to ensure the walkways were completed within the given timeframe and to the highest specification. With work on the walkways starting on September 2016, BriggsAmasco were able to complete the installation three months later, within the agreed timeframe, to ensure the stunning shopping centre opened in the run-up to Christmas – the busiest shopping period of the year – for the benefit of consumers and traders alike.
