BriggsAmasco is among the finalists at this year’s National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) Scottish Roofing Awards, with its Inverness Castle project in the running to scoop the Green Roofing award.
The annual contest, organised by NFRC Scotland, highlights the best roofing and cladding projects, contractors and individuals across Scotland, acknowledging regional excellence, craftsmanship, and safety standards.
Part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, the £47 million Inverness Castle Experience project saw the existing sheriff court and prison transformed into a state-of-the-art tourist attraction. BriggsAmasco’s Green Roofing award nomination recognises its delivery of the waterproofing and green roof on the castle’s new visitor centre.
The company’s experienced roofing operatives installed several Bauder products and systems, including BauderTEC KSD FBS reinforced bitumen membrane, BauderRock tapered insulation, KSA DUO underlay, and a Bauder XF301 sedum system. The green roof required modifications to prevent soil run-off and ensure effective drainage around the existing rooflights, with all trades working cohesively to make sure detailing was watertight and robust on completion.
Close coordination was equally important on the tightly constrained site. BriggsAmasco and main contractor Bancon worked together to make sure all materials and equipment were stored off-site and then transported to the premises only when needed – with an old post office distribution centre used as the storage facility.
Tony Lawther, Managing Director at BriggsAmasco, said: “We’re incredibly proud, not only of the nomination but also the opportunity to have worked on such a comprehensive and important project at Inverness Castle. The inclement Scottish weather and the space-constrained site provided several significant challenges, but the close working relationships between us, the main contractor and all other involved trades ensured we delivered a roof that will stand up to the tough Scottish climate.”
This year’s awards ceremony will be held at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on Friday 30 October 2026. Winners will automatically be entered into the national UK Roofing Awards, to be held in spring 2027.
