Description:

The skill and dedication of BriggsAmasco’s on-site team ensured a challenging project involving the waterproofing of a multi-storey car park in a ‘live’ environment was completed to the highest quality and to the agreed deadline.

The four-storey car park at Southampton General Hospital was built to eliminate parking woes for staff and residents in neighbouring streets. The £8 million site has 800 vehicle spaces and includes a number of access ramps. For the car park’s surface, BriggsAmasco, on behalf of contractors, Interserve, was selected to install a Flexiphalte asphalt waterproof system to the car park’s four levels – 3000m2 of surface in total.

Hand-applied, Flexiphalte systems deliver superior watertight solutions in heavily-trafficked and conventional roof deck applications. Radflex expansion joints were incorporated throughout the waterproofing system to complete a smart, durable installation that will withstand the rigours of traffic and the elements for many years to come.

In order to complete the challenging installation within the agreed six-week timeframe between July and August 2017, BriggsAmasco’s installation team had to overcome a number of challenges. A detailed works programme was devised to coordinate ‘hot charge‘ deliveries in a ‘live’ environment where vehicular access was limited. Additional labour and plant was also seconded to achieve the project handover date, with weekend and out-of-hours working programmes initiated to achieve completion.

Thanks to the diligence of BriggsAmasco’s installation teams, it resulted in a stunning multi-storey car park that looks as good as its watertight performance; helping end the parking misery for hundreds of hard-working hospital staff.
