As the UK experiences another summer of record-breaking temperatures, Net Zero Week provides a timely reminder that climate action remains an urgent priority. The requirement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions has never been clearer, with scientists continuing to warn that human-induced climate change is driving increasingly frequent and intense extreme weather events.

Against this backdrop, BriggsAmasco is reaffirming its commitment to delivering meaningful, science-led climate action. The company remains the only roofing and waterproofing contractor to have signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This represents the global standard for achieving net zero through annual emissions-contraction targets that align with efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, as set out in the Paris Climate Agreement.

Kobir Ahamed, Sustainability Manager BriggsAmasco said: “Net Zero Week is an important reminder that meaningful climate action demands measurable progress. At BriggsAmasco, we’re proud to be advancing our science-led environmental strategy. Supported by innovation and evidence, we’re helping build a more sustainable future for construction.”

UK Net Zero Week 2026 takes place between July 4th and July 10th. It is the official national awareness week and largest climate conference supported by the government and UK industry. Parliamentary roundtables featuring policymakers, corporate executives, and sustainability experts are central to the programme, which focuses on accelerating climate action.

Whilst many organisations have adopted net zero ambitions, BriggsAmasco believes that credible climate strategies should be grounded in robust scientific methodologies rather than arbitrary targets. The recent publication of the draft Version 2 of the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard further reinforces the importance of ambitious governance, transparent transition planning and measurable emissions reductions.

Exceeding emissions reductions target

During 2025, BriggsAmasco delivered significant progress across its environmental strategy. The business reduced Scope 1 emissions by 16% and Scope 2 emissions by 17%, and achieved a remarkable 34% reduction in Scope 3 emissions, far exceeding its annual SBTi reduction target of 5.88%.

These reductions have been driven by major investment in operational decarbonisation. A £1 million electrification programme has enabled the transition from propane-powered equipment to electric hot-melt machines and e-torches across site operations, significantly reducing direct emissions while supporting the company’s long-term net zero ambitions.

BriggsAmasco has also strengthened the accuracy of its carbon reporting through investment in advanced carbon calculation software. This has enabled substantially greater integration of Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) data into emissions reporting, improving the quality of embodied carbon measurement across purchased goods and capital equipment.

Extending environmental investment

Investment has also extended to the company’s headquarters in Cradley Heath, where expanded photovoltaic generation, battery storage and electric vehicle charging infrastructure have further reduced operational emissions. In 2025, the site generated approximately 38,000 kWh of renewable electricity, exporting more than 27,000 kWh back to the national grid. Over the same period, diesel vehicle usage fell by 20%, while domestic business air travel was reduced by half.

Innovation continues to play a central role in BriggsAmasco’s sustainability journey. In 2025, the company received the Construction News Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability following its successful trial of IKO Permatec LI on the Dakota Hotel (Newcastle) project, reducing embodied carbon by approximately 50%.

BriggsAmasco will continue its focus on decarbonising site operations through renewable energy, low-carbon plant and machinery, and sustainable construction products while working towards alignment with the forthcoming SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard Version 2.
