Description:
Hyflex Roof expert installation team completed a challenging roof refurbishment to ensure a popular seaside attraction was fully weathertight in time for the summer holidays.
The works were carried out at Clarence Pier in Southsea, Portsmouth. The project involved overlaying the existing felt roof at the arcade, as the original waterproofing system had begun to fail due to age and wear.
Scope of Works
Following a detailed leak investigation, the decision was made to overlay the existing felt roof with the Hyflex Exemplar PMMA liquid waterproofing system. This approach eliminated the need for hot works and avoided stripping off the existing roof covering.
The cold-applied PMMA system created a fully bonded, seamless waterproof membrane across the 700m² roof area, delivering a durable and long-term solution.
Project Challenges
- Exposed seafront location with limited site access
- Confined roof spaces requiring careful planning
- Strict client deadline ahead of the summer tourist season
- Working within a live trading environment
Solution & Key Benefits
- No hot works required – eliminating fire risk
- No strip-up of the existing roof – reducing waste and disruption
- Seamless, fully bonded waterproofing system
- Fast curing times allowing phased works
- Client able to continue trading throughout the programme
Project Completion
Despite challenging conditions and a tight programme, the refurbishment was successfully completed in June. The client’s deadline was met, and the arcade was handed over with a smart, seamless and fully watertight roof in place for the peak tourist season.
By delivering a high-performance overlay solution within programme and without disruption to operations, Hyflex Roofing fully justified its selection for this demanding coastal project.
