BriggsAmasco delivered a range of waterproofing systems, including green and blue roofs, for an exceptional commercial and recreational hub – Featuring Grade A office space, shops and external, landscaped spaces in the heart of the capital’s historic financial district.

The 10-storey building’s commercial area covers 21,300m2, with shops, large roof terrace gardens, leisure outlets, changing facilities and cycle storage within its footprint, 101 Moorgate is set to become an idyll for working, socialising, relaxing and exploring.

BriggsAmasco was appointed to the 101 Moorgate project by main contractor Mace on behalf of the client. It required BriggsAmasco to waterproof a 1,154m2 roofing area and included the installation of green roofs on levels nine and ten of the building. The green roofs, which cover a 250m2 area, will encourage biodiversity by providing habitats for wildlife and improving the ecosystem. They will also help to negate the heat island effect, which impacts urban areas such as Moorgate, making them significantly hotter than rural settings.

BriggsAmasco also installed a Radmat blue roof system to building levels five and nine across a 300m2 area. The water attenuation system mitigates stormwater runoff and reduces flooding. Its controlled rainwater release is particularly beneficial in managing drainage in built-up urban areas, which are under increasing pressure due to more frequent severe weather events. Engagement with Eco Green Roofs, which is dedicated to building solutions and green technologies, supported BriggsAmasco’s expert delivery of the project’s blue and green roof systems.

BriggsAmasco installed IKO’s ‘Metatech’ on staircases throughout the 101 Moorgate building. Durable and fast-curing, Metatech’s flame-free application ensures a safer, more sustainable waterproof finish that is particularly favourable in confined internal areas.  BriggsAmasco’s coverage of the system amounted to a 120m2 staircase area. Metatech’s fast-curing time was also instrumental in ensuring the works programme remained on schedule, negating the need for additional labour and plant usage.

Environmental and sustainable credentials were foremost considerations in 101 Moorgate’s design.  Once operational, the building will be fossil-free and fully electric achieving a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.

BriggsAmasco’s adoption of clean logistics, including electric mixers, was crucial to upholding the project’s green delivery.

Such initiatives were core to fulfilling Mace and BriggsAmasco’s shared goal for a project that delivered the highest best practice standards in building quality, sustainability and just as crucially, waterproofing excellence.
